Week 6 - Matt Bulow - Clear Lake Reservoir
This week I went to California to check out Clear Lake Reservoir. What fascinates me about this place is that this body of water is surrounded by volcanic rock! In fact, most of north eastern California is made up of volcanic rock. Majority of the area around Clear Lake is made up of Quaternary volcanic flow rocks from the Quaternary age. There is also some minor pyroclastic deposits as well. On the western side of Clear lake there is Quaternary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits from the Quaternary age too. It isn't until you head west a little ways until you get around Tule Lake that you can see some marine and nonmarine sedimentary rocks. These sedimentary rocks are from the Pleistoene-Holocene age. Its funny how two areas so close together can not only look different, but be made up of entirely different things as well! Anyways, I'm gonna go try and catch me some fish now. Might go for a swim too if the fishing fails.
