Nankai Trough
The Nankai Through is a convergent plate boundary off the southern coast of Japan. It is the result of the Phillipine Sea plate subducting under the Eurasian plate which japan rests on. The boundary would be a deep ocean trench, however there is so much sediment creating an accretionary wedge that it fills up the trench. The trough is a big cause of earthquake concern for Japan, the last earthquake occurred in 1946 and the next one is predicted to occur in the middle of this century.
