Alexander Nestle - Okinawa Igneous Rocks

Okinawa, JP is covered in exposed rock structures, which aren’t only beautiful but expose the long history of this little island.  One such example is the igneous rocks that are exposed at Teniya beach.  The intrusive activity of the layers of rock is indicative of intrusive igneous rock.  Also, the layers of rock lay in the same direction, which leads me to believe that the rock structure is made up of stills that were moved by the nearby fault.  The dark color and coarse texture of the rock is a characteristic of Mafic igneous rock with a phaneritic texture so the rock could be gabbro or peridotite.  Either way, it is very beautiful and gives the beach a lot of character.
