Wichita Mountains - Oklahoma

The Wichita Mountains Nature Reserve is a great source for rock out cropping. The rock structures in this area were formed during the Pennsylvanian Period and later exposed due to the uplifting of the rocks. During our hike we saw a lot interesting things including granite deposits and the Crabs Eyes which is two rocks setting on top each other. The granite was very coarse which would mean it cooled very slowly and later became exposed. We also found a rock covered in fluorescent moss which was very cool to see. It's very flat here so the higher you go you can see everything.

  1. Hi Nick! Cool post, I haven't even heard of that area but it sounds really cool. I went to Eldorado Canyon here in Colorado and it also had a lot of granite.
