Matthew Johnson - Week 6

This week I decided it was time to finally visit Yosemite National Park. Yosemite is home to glaciers, mountains, valleys, rivers, and forests. The geological map of California shows a lot of pink, which is granite. This makes a lot of sense with the rocks you find and some of the beautiful formations that are located there.
The pink is granite rock, showing Yosemite is primarily granite.

The first stop while at Yosemite was to check out El Capitan. The formation is primarily granite and sits at over 3,000 feet tall. The formation is under intense pressure as you can see by rocks flaking off of it. Since I'm not much of a climber I researched more about El Capitan on Yosemite's website. I learned that the rock formation was mostly formed by glacier movement.
You can see the layers of granite and how it is any climbers dream.

The second stop while at Yosemite was the Half Dome. The Half Dome is a peak in Yosemite that stands at over 8,000 feet above sea level. I treacherous hike and almost inaccessible California added a cable route to help get to the top.
You can see the granite rock on the top and how wind and weather have eroded the sides.

One of the main formating factors of Yosemite is glaciers. Knowing that glaciers have been a huge reason why Yosemite looks the way it looks I would like a chart showing glacial movement and glacial activity.

Yosemite is considered one of the greatest National Parks in the United States and while exploring you can see why it is. Everybody should visit it when they can.
