I often go to pikes peak living in the Colorado Springs area. So I figured it would be very cool to learn more about. The mountain was named by Zebulon Pike in 1806. Pikes Peak is mainly comprised of the igneous rock granite. Granite is mainly comprised of quartz and feldspar. The most interesting thing about pikes peaks granite though is that it is over a billion years old. Another interesting fact is that Pikes Peak is still being lifted to this day due to tectonic processes.
