Week 8 - Global Warming - Austen Morgan

I see tall buildings, reaching the sky. Canals separate the buildings and they are crowded with sea crafts carrying people. Is this Venice? No, this is New York City in the year 7010. Although mankind did curb our use of fossil fuels and vastly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, it was not before we lost over 75% of the Antarctic ice.

This was just as we had seen in the tropical ice topped mountains in South America. To reduce the pollution, all vehicles are no required to be electric without special permit from the government, this is a US law but is also followed throughout the world. Strict regulation was also passed down to industry in the US, coal was outlawed, businesses were forced to use solar energy and many other changes. The melting of Antarctic ice displaced millions of animals and led to the extinction of the emperor penguin among others. Temperatures around the world have raised about 20 degrees Fahrenheit as there is only recently some signs of the temperature possibly lowering. The amount of land above sea level has fallen dramatically, and millions died in the floods, unable to reach land and holding onto hope the water would recede. In New York, winters are now mild, with very rare snow, although there is talk among geologists about a possible ice age looming.
