Week 6 - San Bernardion County

San Bernardino County is a hub of fault lines, earthquakes and general seismic activity. Withe the San Andreas fault and the San Jacinto there fault it is no wonder. There have been many earthquakes in this area throughout history, some causing loss of life and many displacing residents. This is further complicated by the fact that the area seems to be only getting more crowded as people and businesses move to the area. My first question would be about the soil, and how moist it is. The amount of water in the soil can increase the intensity of an earthquake in that area. My second question would be about how strict the laws and codes are for building in this area, and how it compares to some of the intense regulations implemented by the Japanese. Does the amount of precaution taken depend at all on the amount of moisture in the soil? My third question would be, is there any correlation between people moving to the area and earthquakes? As in, is there a steep drop in new residents in the area after an earthquake or does it remain the same?
