Week 8 - Global Warming

The Coastal City I choose to visit is Buxton, NC. One of many little towns in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. 5,000 years have passed and despite our best efforts to combat climate change and costal beach erosion, most of the coastal towns along the east coast of the United States, especially the barrio islands of North Carolina that make up the outer banks are now under water. The flat sandy coastline of North Carolina is now under a shallow ocean. The earth has warmed and most of the glaciers have melted back into the ocean causing the sea levels to rise around the world. Over 5,000 years, the cost to restore the sandy beaches and replace coastal homes have risen beyond a rational cost so the government had to step in and declare the coastal areas national parks and relocate the millions of residence of the east coast to the middle of the country.
The shallow ocean that now covers the low country of the East Coast.

Because most of the coastal cities were facing the threat of the ocean, We have put more research into creating a livable habitat under water. After a couple decades of refining the underwater habitats, many major coastal cities in America such as Wilmington are now mostly under water structures that were built to sustain the once thriving population. Companies like the Shimizu Corporation have perfected these under water structures. In 2018 we were just starting to solve this problem.
