Week 2 - Igneous Rocks

This week I've decided to break free of the quarantine and visit Black Canyon in Gunnison National Park located in Gunnison, CO.  Colorado in general is full of beautiful landscaps, rock formations, and many mountains that all form the Rocky Mountains.

While there are many forms of Igneous rock to find within Gunnison National Park, the formations in Black Canyon are absolutely gorgeous.  This canyon gets it's name from the fact that through most of the day the sunlight does not reach the very bottom due to the high walls of Pegmatite, characterized by the minerals it is composed of and the crystals that form within it.

You can find many types of minerals within the rock formations here, many of the feldspar group.  The largest concentration being potassium.

If you have the chance to visit, there are some great trails and fantastic hikes to be had within Gunnison!
