This week week we traveled to a volcano nearest my home, Amboy volcano, most commonly called Amboy Crater. This volcano is located in the Mojave desert in California and covers approximately
70 square kilometers. The transform, San Andreas Fault is the nearest fault to Amboy Crater. Though relatively near the fault, Amboy Crater isn't located on the fault, so this volcano could have been created from a weak spot in the crust where magma seeped through. Due to it's shape, it's obvious that this is a cinder cone volcano, so it was an explosive type. This volcano also generated pahoehoe lava flow. Cinder cone volcanoes are known for erupting once, so it's very unlikely that Amboy Crater will erupt again.
