After quite a few hours’ drive we
finally made it to the Grand Canyon. There is nothing that could really
prepare us for what we were about to see. When I first looked out over
the vast formations all I could see was miles of beautifully formed sedimentary
rocks. It looked almost like a painting to me, the view just felt so
unreal. It is amazing to think that water has created such a beautiful
place, specifically the Colorado River. The amount of erosion that has
occurred over millions of years is incredible. The Grand Canyon is about
277 miles long some 18 miles wide and 6000 feet deep. There are about 40
different types of rock layers exposed throughout the canyon. The layers
are easy to see from any angle. Not only are they scientifically
interesting but they add character when looking over the canyon. This is
an experience I will never forget!
