Week 5 Aleutian subduction zone

I visited the Aleutian Islands, where the Pacific plate subducts under the North American plate. This is an oceanic crust that subducts under the continental crust.

The entire Aleutian chain is formed by volcanoes caused by the subduction zone. There are around 50 active volcanoes along the Aleutian chain.

The subduction zone cause compression. The plate boundary is also known as the Alaskan megathrust. It causes some of the largest earthquakes. Do to all the volcanoes there is a large amount of igneous rock. The area is known for faulting. This faulting can cause a large amount of damage. The fault is a thrust fault.
