Week 6 - Geologic Interpretations - Los Angeles County

Today, we visit Los Angeles County. Los Angeles county begins around long beach and goes up north as far as Lancaster. Based on the geologic map, we can tell that the Santa Monica Mountains has tons of things to watch out for. We can tell through places that have just the letter Q, there was some sort of lake or terrace deposit going on there beforehand. There are many different things to see along the mountain range, however we may need some more information to see what we would need to interpret this data.
First, we may ask for information on a topological map just to see what the elevations we have are. Knowing what elevations certain areas are at can help determine where water or ocean could have began in the past, all to compare it to the present. The next thing we may ask for is what type of fossils are found along the outcroppings in Santa Monica, the Santa Monica Mountains, along Long beach, and other areas as well. These would help us determine what kind of wildlife lived in the area. Not knowing what might exist, our third question would be what kind of plate tectonics effect the Los Angeles County. It would be helpful to know what plates effects this county directly, as this would make it easy to tell why the mountains formed
