Week 6 - Geological Interpretation

This week I decided to visit Mammoth Lakes California. I went to Mammoth
Lakes trying to use geological interpretation to find out more about the location.
In order to use geological interpretation effectively, I needed some information.

The first piece of information I would like are samples of rocks found in this
location. Using rock samples I would be able to determine things about
Mammoth Lakes past, such as if it experienced volcanic activity, flowing
magma, a large lake, or an ocean. These rock samples would give me
information that I could use to start and further my geological interpretation.

The second piece of information I would like is information relating to
radiometric dating. Using radiometric dating I would be able to see how
old certain parts of Mammoth Lakes geological features are. I would be able to
compare and contrast different Mammoth Lakes locations and determine
which formed first and which formed last.

The last bit of information I would use is information regarding Mammoth Lakes
weather. If I had information on Mammoth Lakes weather, I would be able to
see how much it rains and snows. I would also see how powerful and
frequently wind blows. This information would allow me to see if sediment was
carried from water, wind, or is indigenous to the location. I would be able to
determine how some of the rocks in Mammoth Lakes were formed.
