Week 4 Volcanoes Hirra Faizi

Mauna Loa is a volcano located in Hawaii and it is one of the five volcanoes that forms the island of Hawaii by about 50%. Mauna Loa is also considered the largest subaerial volcano in mass and volume as well as being the largest one on Earth. It rises 13,681 feet above sea level and last erupted in 1984. The lava from this volcano's eruptions forms basaltic rocks which are also found in the ocean's floor. Specifically, these rocks are predominantly tholeiitic basalt and contain silica, iron and magnesium. In addition, Basalt is usually dark grey to a deep red in color but mostly appears black. The texture can be smooth or cindery.
