Week 4 - Volcanos - Bridget B Menash

I recently went on a family trip and visited Mount Vesuvius, which is located in Campania, Italy on the Gulf of Naples. The volcano is best known for destroying Pompeii and Herculaneum and it is a part of the Campanian volcanic arc. The volcano is explosive but it is in a quiescent state. There is not only picture proof of the explosion that destroyed Pompeii and Herculaneum but there is also science reading to back everything up. Pompeii was entirely covered in volcanic ash so because of this the entire city and even some bodies were preserved which was proof enough to conclude that Mount Vesuvius was the reasoning for the destruction of the city.

The volcano is explosive but it is in a quiescent state. Mount Vesuvius is also classified as a stratovolcano, these volcanos have extremely explosive eruptions which tend to have deadly pyroclastic flows and toxic gases. Being able to see Mount Vesuvius was great and it was a breathtaking experience. My family along with myself were able to have great insight about Mount Vesuvius and the history behind it. It was a great experience that I wouldn’t change for the world.
