Here in the county of Napa Valley I'm enjoying more than the California wine (and trust me the wine is good). On a spur of the moment I decided to venture to a geological landmarks that are surrounding me. Time and geological force have worked cohesively to form variations of soil (over 100 to be exact) include a consistency of volcanic and marine origins. Furthermore, this soil is essential to the consistency and characteristics of grapes which are used primarily for, you guessed it...wine! This valley would not exist however without some 150-million years of geological events occurring. Therefore, it is safe to conclude that history is very prominant here, relationships that have formed overtime have contributed to the complexity of geological aspects. Specifically, this consists of volcanic activity and tectonic plate movement. Erosion has also played a role in the formation of soil material found here. There are also several alluvial fans which are present in Napa Valley which have formed both hillsides and valley floor. There are so many additional geological components of Napa county which I am looking forward to learn more about including encroachment of the San Pablo Bay as well as the flooding of the Napa River. Cheers!
