Week 6 - NestleAlexander - Siskiyou County

The country that I chose was Siskiyou County in northern California.  The Klamath Mountains run through Siskiyou Country, which provide a great amount of geologic structures.  The mountains originated as volcanic arcs in the Pacific Ocean, which indicated by the large amount of igneous rocks, such as Granite (Hotz, 1971).  However, this indicates how they were formed but not really much more than that, and based on the photos I was able to find, there isn’t many exposed strata to study.  First, I would like to know if there is any exposed strata in the country.  This could tell me how many layers were formed, which could tell me how old the land is, as well as any deformed strata would indicate tectonic occurrences.  Second, I would like to know about the fossil assemblage found in the area.  This would tell me what types of organisms lived in the area and also how long the strata has been formed.  Third, I would like to know the ratio of daughter atoms to parent atoms of one of the elements in the rock formations, this could be a more accurate indicator of the age of the rock formations.
