At the uplift and erosion stop, they discuss how the rocks
were not easily accessible to obtain. I wonder how long it took them to realize
there was gold in the mountains and to how long it took them to reach it. I
assume the realization was a hunch, let’s see what these mountains hold, and
how long would have to be figured out by how deep the mining sites were.
Artist's drive, multi-colored rocks: https://geomaps.wr.usgs.gov/parks/deva/ftart1.html |
At the artist’s drive stop, leaves me wondering where these
floods came from and why only some mountains are affected. The mountains look
like they are colored from different eras, so it leads me to believe that the
floods took over, painting the mountains and then they rose up in different
eras into the range they are today.
Sliding rock and its trail across Racetrack Playa: https://geomaps.wr.usgs.gov/parks/deva/ftrac1.html |
At the racetrack playa stop, I want to figure out the mystery
of the sliding rocks. First, I would want to know how heavy these rocks are—can
they be pushed by an animal? How hard is it to create such an indent in the
mud? How many rock indents are there usually, meaning how often does this phenomenon
occur? And how weather might play a role.
