Alex Steele - Week 2 - Igneous Rock

I took a family trip recently to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park! 
It’s called Black Canyon because the walls of the canyon are so high that 
sunlight has a hard time getting into the canyon! The picture below isn’t a 
good representation of that though. The picture does provide a nice example 
of pegmatite! Pegmatite is characterized by its large crystals and mixtures 
of minerals. The most common mineral in these rocks is potassium feldspar. 
The cracks you can see are from magma getting in between the cracks as the 
rock cooled. It was a great trip, but pretty cold!
