Field Trip Travel Journal


This past week, my brothers and I visited Arcadia National Park on the Mountain Desert Island in Maine to check out some of the beautiful rock structures within the park. As we went hiking on one of many beautiful trails within the park, we noticed several different types of metamorphic and igneous rocks. About halfway through the hike, our trail guide pointed out the Ellsworth Schist, which is the oldest known rock in the mountain region. This metamorphic rock is formed by grey quartz and feldspar as well as green chlorite. It is pictured below.
