Week 4- Mount St. Helens

This past summer, I went on a 3 week long trip to the pacific northwest, including multiple stops in both Washington and Oregon. One of the coolest moments of the trip was stopping at Mt. St. Helens on my drive from Seattle to Portland. Mount St. Helens is probably the most famous/infamous volcano in the United States, due to its eruption in 1980. Mt. St. Helens is located very close to a fault line where the North American and Juan de Fuca plate, and is considered part of the "Pacific Ring of Fire." With an eruption happening fairly recently, you could see lasting effects the eruption had. The eruption of 1980 was explosive, but small effusive eruptions occurred following the big one. Mount St. Helens is expected to erupt again, as the average eruption occurrence is every 100-300 years.
