Field Trip Journal - Week 2: Guatemala
FIELD TRIP TO GUATEMALA
I recently visited Guatemala on a family trip to show my kids where my side of the family immigrated from. We decided to take a nature hike along the Pacaya Volcano as part of our Guatemala adventure.
As we were hiking near the volcano, I remembered my geology course on identifying rocks and minerals. The volcanic activity meant there had to be igneous rocks galore. I began to tell my family about all the volcanic activity that's caused the formation of extrusive and intrusive igneous rocks in the area and how the south west side of Guatemala is riddled active volcanoes.
