Week 3: Running Water

This week my wife, dog, and I went to one of our favorite places to go hiking and just enjoying the outdoors, Lair O' Bear.

The hike at Lair O' Bear isn't too strenuous and you get to drive through a canyon to get to it and then it's tucked down in the canyon.  Running through the entirely of Lair O' Bear is Bear Creek, a fairly decent size creek of running water. This is honestly the reason we went in the first place is so our dog could play in the water. I wasn't sure how much the creek meandered when we first hiked it, but after looking at the map, it does look like it meanders quite a bit.

The water does have a fairly rough texture with smooth rocks that if you are daring you can use to cross the creek. There are plenty of bridges though, to make this something that isn't necessary. The creek does move quick enough for little amounts of sand to be carried in the upper of the water. I stepped in the water barefoot, which was freezing, to see if the sand was moving on the bottom. I could feel the sand move a little bit, but with how rocky the creek is the water isn't moving extremely quickly.

The creek is perennial in nature since it will flow all year from the water running into it from the mountains above. Looking at it I don't believe it has a high chance of flooding with it being lower and the canyon surrounding it.
I took this photo a few months ago of Lair O' Bear, shows the water running.
