Giant's Causeway

Giant's Causeway - Northern Ireland

While traveling with family, we visited Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland. Understanding its name was a mystery until arrival, where in fact we saw it was an enourmous formation of igneous rocks.

By the rocks' thick and darkish green/black color, I was able to explain to my family that the rock formation we were viewing was that of the ingeous rock basalt. These basalt rocks were formed millions of years ago as a result of lava flowing into the sea from volcanic erruptions.

A fable exists that the rocks were created by giants and after visting Giant's Causeway, I can certainly understand why.
