North Shore Long Island | Week 2
Recently my Fiancee and I had met some friends on the north shore of Long Island in the town of Huntington. As we made our way to a local restaurant on the water we were able to walk along the water edge and I was able to see a number of ingenious rocks that had been rounded and smoothed out by the waves of the long island sound. The northern cost line of long island is a much more rocky and elevated area as compared to the south shore which hosts a more sandy coastline due to past glaciation. After bringing some of the stones home for further inspection and research it appears that a number of the rounded stones are slate stones and possibly a marble stone or two. A good portion of the rocky shoreline of northern Long Island and southern Connecticut was what appears to be a result of cooling volcanic rock and continuous platonic shifts. Although not a great place for a beach outing the north shore of Long Island has a very unique cost line with a great depiction of New England's geological history.
