Patapsco Valley State Park Trip - Week 2

All rights reserved

This week I took my family to Patapsco Valley State Park. Maryland’s topographic and geologic characteristics are divided among the Coastal Plain, Piedmont, Blue Ridge, Ridge and Valley and Appalachian Plateau. The Patapsco area is within Piedmont and is characterized by the numerous streams and rolling hills. The park service mentioned the bedrock under the park comes from Pre-Cambrian and Cambrian periods which contain mostly gneiss and schist rocks.

The rocks along the stream bed and cutaways were a mix of textures which included a variety of rock types and even some sedimentary rocks.
