Week 6 - Geological Interpretations

This week I am visiting Lake Isabella, located in the hot springs valley in California. It is located in an area that is home to Mesozoic mixed and plutonic rocks. In the photo below, the darker purple/blue areas that surround the lake contain ultramafic rocks, mostly serpentine, minor peridotite, and quartz diorite. In the photo at the bottom, Lake Isabella is located in the southern part of the red area representing intrusive igneous rocks, specifically granitic rocks.

Lake Isabella is located right on the Kern Canon Fault. A piece of information that I am requesting is how old is this lake because I would like to know how long this area has been here. Another piece of information that I would request is why does this fault line separate for a small distance north of the lake and does this affect the lake in any way because I would like to know the relation of the fault to the lake. The third piece of information that I would request is what type of fault is the Kern Canon Fault because there is very little information provided about it.
