This week I will be heading to California to visit Death Valley. More specifically, I will be traveling to Golden Canyon. As always when visiting a location I wonder where else the rocks found here are located. I think it would be helpful to know where else this land may have been connected historically. When looking a both of the pictures listed below it is clear that type of rock varies and appears to be layered. In order to help my understanding of the region, I would sample the rock found at the top where it appears to be more reddish and the rock near the base which has lighter color. Then based on that information, I would attempt to find where else this rock is present and if it is in this same order. If it is in the same order that tells me that the sediment was deposited in the same order and both landmasses were connected. If they are deposited in different orders I would infer that the landmasses might have been joined at the same time but perhaps they broke apart later and then experienced different geologic events.
