Week 5 - Converging Plates

This week I decided to visit the Andes Mountains. The Andes Mountain range is one of the world's longest mountain ranges, located in South America. The form of the mountains are the result of compressional strain at the convergent plate margin. What I have noticed is ductile deformation happening to form the shape of the mountains. There are volcano rocks present as well as plutonic rocks. Recrystallized quartz have been refolded. The sedimentary and metamorphic rocks are marked by both active and dormant volcanoes. Strike-slip faults have pressure ridges and uplifted slivers of crust. The fault systems are considered normal. The mountains are mostly being folded and uplifted.
