Placer County, California
Placer County consists of the Sierra Nevada geologic province. The geology of the northern Sierra Nevada is mainly dominated by volcanic rocks. Placer County consists of well known sites such as Lake Tahoe, Bear Creek, and the Truckee River. The Sierra Nevada on the northeastern side is from weathered granite. Placer County consists of Lake Tahoe witch is the third deepest lake in North America. Lake Tahoe was formed by the rise and fall of the landscape due to faulting. The Sierra Nevada range is also another geologic feature that occurs in Placer County. The Sierra Nevada was formed by uplifting. The Sierra Nevada developed on the western side. The down thrown fault block sank creating the large valley. Jurassic and Cretaceous granitic rocks exist here. Another geologic past in Placer County is McKinney Bay. This was created by a massive submarine landslide that generated a tsunami in the lake.
While Placer County consists of many different geologic sites being able to understand different pieces of information and gain data will be important. I want to request data from the first time metamorphic rock was discovered in the Sierra Nevada's can help determine how the Sierra Nevada's were formed as well as a time line on how long it took to form the Sierra Nevada's. Information on the trending units bound by faults will assist me in determining the age and lithology of the terrain in the area. Since Lake Tahoe is an important geologic feature in Placer County, receiving data from all the different types of rocks that have been discovered at the bottom of the lake and which part of the lake can help determine what happened in that location and how the fault affected that specific area.
