Week 6 - Eric Valero

For this week's travel journal, we will be examining the area around San Mateo County

This map shows two "Seismic Hazard Zones," Montara Mountain and Woodside. This region is bordered by the ocean and San Francisco bay. A fault zone runs from the North-West to the South East directly through the region, and there are fault zones to both the West and East.
With it's proximity to the oceanic plate and these multiple fault boundaries, the region is at significant risk for seismic activity. I would have the following three questions about the region:

1. Is the region on top of a subducting oceanic plate?

2. If there is a subducting plate, is there still volcanic activity in the area?

3. How have the presence of faults in the area impacting the building code? Are there active measures in place to prevent significant structural damage in the case of earthquakes?
