Antisana volcano

Snow-covered Antisana stratovolcano in Ecuador (Aug 2016) (Photo: Jiri VonDrak)

Ecuador’s countryside has some beautiful features, for instance volcanoes. Antisana is a volcano located in the Northern Andes, south of the capital city Quito, Ecuador. This volcano probably formed similar to other volcanoes located on the pacific belt, known as the Ring of Fire. Standing at 5,704m it is the forth tallest mountain in Ecuador. This composite cone volcano is a stratovolcano, and reflects its viscous nature, and silica-rich magma, hence it’s standard cone-shape; also, likely has an andesitic composition, leading me to speculate this volcano can generate a very explosive eruption ejecting ash and lava into the air.  Maybe, even likely to erupt and spew pyroclastic materials; however, it may not cause much damage because the closest city is located 31 miles away.  This is a beautiful volcano, and it’s interesting because it a classic volcano and has been noted for its difficulty to climb.
