Axel Perez Week 6

Due to the San Andreas fault, California has one of the most complex geologies in the United States. California is composed of twelve geomorphic provinces. Los Angeles sits on the boundary of two provinces which is the transverse ranges and the Peninsular Ranges. I would like to request more information on how these provinces effect the tectonic relations.

San Andreas Fault

California also has two different extremes when it comes to high and low altitudes in the United States. The highest point is Mt. Whiteny while the lowest point is Death valley. I would like to get more information as to why these two are so close to each other and how it affects California.

Another interesting aspect of California's geology is that due to the uplift created by Sierra Nevada, moist of oceanic air masses and it rains which causes a lot of the water to reach San Joaquin valley. I would like more data on how this water affects the ecosystem of life around the area and if certain species only live there because of it.
