Week 3 - Volcano

I visited Mt. Rainier last year and learned that it is the highest volcano in the Cascade Mountain Range at 14,410 feet. The main cone of the volcano has formed since 730,000 years ago and the volcano has two craters that merge at the summit. Mt. Rainier is an episodically active composite volcano called a stratovolcano that is a conical volcano built up of alternate layers of hardened lava, volcanic ash, tephra and pumice. For years the volcano has alternated between the aa and pahoehoe flows resulting in its composition today.
