San Andreas Fault
David K. Lynch-Field Guide to the San Andreas Fault
I visited the San Andreas Fault which in located on the coastline of California. This fault was big and I could tell that there had been some damage done. The fault is broken done into three zones and each zone has the possibility to cause a different degree of earthquake. There is evidence that the fault underwent lots of compressive forces and that is why it is like that today. The thrust fault was compressed between the two plates. All of the stress caused the fault to end up like this. There were many minerals and sediments there that I observed and found interesting. But I found figuring out the process of how the fault was formed was more interesting. I learned that because of the earthquake, the land basically just folded in and the two plates just pushed against one another. Some critical information that might be helpful for me would be knowing the land and getting pictures of it before going there. Learning information about thrust faults and how compression affects them. And finally knowing facts and things about the 1906 earthquake would be helpful to understand the damage that it caused.
